Day 6 Encouragement

Today is Day 6 of our 11 day fast to kick off 2011.  I know that so many people in our church have said this is the hardest time they’ve ever had fasting.  There is a reason for that.  God is about to do something significant.

Before Jesus began his ministry on this earth, he took 40 days to pray and fast on the mountain.  Satan came to tempt Jesus to fail.  And the first temptation was PHYSICAL.  Seems like an odd temptation between the Son of God and the ruler of evil.  Turn a stone into bread?  Why is that such a big deal?  It’s not like that’s a bad miracle.

Perhaps, Satan wanted to undercut what Jesus was about to experience.  If the devil can get us to give up on our fast because it’s too hard, then we may be giving up too early on the breakthrough that is about to come.  We have no idea what God wants to do through this entire time.  In fact your greatest word from God or biggest opportunity may not come until the 11th hour.  It may be that God is priming you through this fast to do something significant that you will discover later.

Maybe that was the case with Jesus.  Perhaps, his fast was priming him for what God wanted him to do over the next three years…or even at the end of those three years on the cross.

So stay strong.  Endure til the end!

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58
