Eat the crust

I love crust.  I love pizza crust.  I love pie crust.  I love the crust on a grilled cheese sandwich.  I love the edges.  But for some strange reason, many people do not.

My daughters always eat the inside of garlic bread and leave the crust.  I just don’t get it!  The crust is the best part.  It seems like such a waste.  It’s the best part!

But there’s one thing that is worse than wasting the crust…it’s wasting your life.  So many people take the part they like, but they leave the best part uneaten.  They think their God given abilities are for themselves and not for what God wants to do through them. They get so consumed by simply existing, that they forget how to really live.

“Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.  (Matthew 21:43)

I believe that this is a warning for all Christians and all churches. Jesus said these words in the context of the parable of the talents. In simple words, if you waste your God-given abilities, you’ll lose your God-given purpose.

I believe that God has put inside of all of us a purpose and the ability to accomplish it.  God has some unique plan for putting me on this earth at this very time in history.  He’s also done the same with you.

Yet, I see people all around me wasting the best part.  They ignore the crust.  They use their skills to enjoy a better life, but not to build a better life.  I see people ignoring the talents God placed inside of them, because they don’t have time.  I see churches sitting on tons of resources, but never affecting lives with the Gospel.

Jesus made it clear.  Either you produce fruit, or you are removed.  Producing fruit is a choice.  It’s our choice.  You might say, “Doesn’t God produce the fruit?”  Yes, when we do OUR part.  God causes the work we invest to produce.  But we have to do the work.  We have to be intentional about planting and harvesting!

Are you wasting or working?

Don’t waste the best part of your life.

Don’t leave the crust.
