Almost everyone has heard the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The part of the story that most of us remember is that there was a fiery furnace.
Sometimes life can be like a fiery furnace. When we face difficult things, it feels like the world is turning up the heat on us.
In the second week of our Daniel series, Pastor Tim gave us a deeper understanding of a well known Sunday School story. When the king threatened these men with fire, here was their response.
Daniel 3:16-18 (NIV)
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
Talk about a courageous faith! These verses reveal to us that God wants our faith and our worship no matter what we face. When we are faced with fire or find ourselves right in the middle of it, we first need to be able to say that we know God is able to deliver us. Courageous faith is being able to say that “even if He doesn’t,” we will trust Him. We might just learn that God wants to take us through the fire to reveal Himself to us in a whole new way.
Are you willing to trust Him in the fire? How courageous is your faith?
