Today marks a day that forever changed our eternity. This day known as Good Friday is the day we recognize Jesus’ death on the cross.
I’ve often struggled with calling it GOOD Friday. When I think about the brutality of Jesus’ death and how he did NOTHING to deserve it, I have a hard time saying it was good.
Yet, we all know that without the cross we are facing a death sentence. None of us are good compared to a perfect and holy God. But I guess that’s what makes Jesus’ death so GOOD for us! He took our place. He paid for our sins. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Romans 5:8.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Perhaps the reason we call this day GOOD Friday is because without the cross, we have no GOOD NEWS! Without the cross, it’s only BAD news.
Maybe the greatest thing we can do to honor Christ for His sacrifice is to invite others to hear the GOOD News. This weekend we are sharing the Gospel (Good News) at Crossroads. Let’s honor Jesus’ death by living out the Good News and sharing it with others this weekend.
