Yesterday morning I was listening to a message given by Christine Caine from Hillsong Church in Australia. She was talking about human trafficking and the sex slave industry. Honestly, I had NO idea how bad this really was. Her message just messed me up.
As a father, to hear stories of young girls being kidnapped and forced into brothels infuriates me. I can’t imagine if that happened to my daughters. Christine’s message was about the Parable of the Samaritan who saw a fellow man in need and stopped to do something about it. As many of you know, in that same story Jesus told the “religious” people just passed by on the other side of the street.
I couldn’t help but feel, we need to make this stop. We need to take action. Someone needs to do something about it…
Then, I sat down as I usually do to read the Bible. I was smacked in the face by Leviticus 5:1. I felt like God was saying, if we don’t speak up and stand up against injustice when we hear about it…we are guilty. To go about our lives and pretend it doesn’t happen is WRONG!
When God bothers you about something, there is usually a reason for it. I don’t know how this might affect our church, but I want to begin by bringing awareness. The organizations that are leading the fight against this are asking for us to bring awareness even more than money or help at this time.
So do me a favor and take a moment to listen to her message. If you have itunes, search for New Spring Church Audio and listen to the message given February 14. It will bother you, but we need to be bothered about this.
