Why I’m quitting the ministry – Please Read.

Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Happy April Fool’s Day! I’m not quitting…are you crazy?

But this day is very special to me. You see, my life changed 8 years ago today when I went into full-time ministry.  I never forget the fact that I went into full-time ministry on April Fool’s Day.  I often wonder if God choosing me was just an April’s Fool Day joke.  I remember taking this step and feeling scared, nervous and excited all at the same time.  It was one of the biggest steps of faith I have ever personally taken.

I walked away from a great career in Information Technology.  I had a very secure and highly sought after position with the State of Ohio.  I liked my job a lot.  It had great benefits, and let’s face it, getting fired from a State job is nearly impossible!

But it wasn’t my calling.  It wasn’t what God had chosen me for.  He called me to invest my life in leading the local church. God had greater plans for me and our small church than I could even imagine.

Today, I think about all the lives that have been changed because I was willing to take a step of faith and to trust God’s plan for my life.  They weren’t changed because of me; they were changed because God can use people who are simply obedient to Him.

God used one verse from Luke 9 to give my wife and I the audacious faith to take this step.

But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:62

I don’t know what the future holds, but I trust the One who holds my future.  He invited me on this journey 8 years ago, and I pray that I get to serve him in this capacity as long as He and the people of my church will have me.
